Schlitterbahn in Galveston, Texas!

There's nothing quite like cooling down during the hot summer months by jumping in comfortable, cool water!
We had the opportunity to take our family to the Schlitterbahn in Galveston, Texas this past weekend.
It was great fun for everyone. We arrived shortly after the park opened so we were able to park near the front. Parking is, of course, free. Lines were somewhat long, but not unbearable.
Our first goal upon entering - find the lockers. We decided to rent a locker for all out stuff that we didn't want to haul around but would need later. We also got a Splash Cash band.
These things are amazing! First, you don't have to carry cash and cards around the park.
Simply load a band with how much money you want. At the end of the day, you can get back whatever you don't use. It goes back to you in the form that you paid in. We paid by card so we should get our money back in about 2-3 days depending on the processing time. The band is good for up to 4 days so if you are staying at the resort or going for more than one day, you can keep using the same band (as long as you don't mind wearing it overnight).
There were so many rides and not enough energy for all of them! Even my kids were ready to head "home" within a few hours. We also couldn't get to everything due to having our youngest with us. The Wolfpack and Thundertubs were great rides for more than one. You ride a big raft, spinning and bumping down a long tube.
The food was a bit expensive. I highly recommend bringing a cooler full from home. $10.99 for a single plate was pretty hefty. Unless you are a light eater like me, in which case I suggest splitting the plate with someone. I will admit the hamburger was a good size.
And so many fries that I couldn't finish mine. Another smart suggestion is to upgrade your drink to the souvenir cup. Doing so gives you free drink refills all day. An upgrade is $5.99 with your meal. Otherwise you can pay $10.99 for your cup alone.
Be careful not to walk away from the table and leave food as the birds will have no problem swooping in to devour your lunch!
A whole pizza runs about $20 though. And if its just one person, you can get 1/4 a pizza with a drink for $7.99. Other food concessions included ice cream and snack shacks. I got my daughter a fresh fruit cup for $2.99. I did like that when one plate was dropped on the way to the table, they replaced it without making a fuss with a fresh one. It cost us about $48 for 2 adults and 3 children. Remember to take your time eating and wait before getting in the water!
Life jackets for the younger or weaker swimmers were everywhere.
We took all the kids onto the Torrent River and they were able to ride along pretty well. We didn't take the White Water option as I wasn't sure I could hold onto the baby while keeping my eye on the son who rode with me.
Every main area, there are three, has a kiddie area.
This is great for when you have to split up to ride.
Someone can stay with the younger kids and its centralized so you will be more likely to be found by the others in your group.
After just a few hours, my daughter was sleeping soundly in the stroller and the boys were asking to go home to sleep!
Pack your lunch and have fun!

  1. Wow! What a park. They need to build one in Florida. That is a very good review about the park.

    1. They should! I'm certain it would be very popular.
