I bought a little 2 foot tree for the kids. I'm not a fan of having a Christmas tree. I don't believe they are something needed to celebrate, but the kids wanted something Christmas-related. I also hung the stockings for them and myself.
The sitter who watches my daughter, does crafts with my baby girl. They made a snowman poster and my son made a poinsettia picture in his class. These are our Christmas decorations and the kids couldn't be happier. Since the tree isn't big enough to put the gifts under, I put it on a side table that has a shelf under it for the gifts. In the shifting of our home life, it brings a warm happiness to my kids. And that's all I could want for them right now.
We have gone shopping and I'm teaching the children to embrace the nerd within. So yes, we have saber fights at Target!
On the side, I'm working hard to see a specialist about getting my back fixed. We have narrowed down the cause of my pain to three possibilities; nerve irritation, slipped discs, or deteriorating discs. A side effect of having scoliosis and the spinal fusions to fix it, is that the discs in my lower spine that weren't attached to the rods were not fused as the ones above them were. This means they carry more pressure and get stressed. They begin sliding or deteriorating. It doesn't help that deteriorating discs runs through my moms side of the family. Arthritis has also flared through this spot. So the cold does its normal pain-inducing tricks to increase the discomfort. By any normal standards, I probably shouldn't be up walking around. But I do have a high tolerance for pain. I also have a strong will and my mother helped me learn pain management when I battled the scoliosis. These three things get me up in the morning and keep me going until I can finally pass out from sheer exhaustion after a long days work. But I have to remind myself... Keep smiling. Its hard. It hurts. And crying comes sometimes. But afterwards, I have to smile.
