Batman Day success!

Yesterday was a fun time for my kiddos and I. Went to Heroes and Fantasies off 410 to meet Batman and score a free comic book!
We all dressed up for the occasion as well.
Sadly batman booked it out of there right when we got in. They gave away batman masks to the kids
and we got free rubber bracelets. So many great nerds showed up. Whole families! It was fantastic. Look forward to the next event.

Miles from Tomorrowland toy review

I love being a House Party blogger. I get to review some fun stuff at times, for free! My most recent one is the Miles from Tomorrowland Tomy toys.
I was going to have a party, but some of the children invited got sick.
So instead I sent them toys to cheer them up in their recovery. I also made them Blodger Blop cupcakes.

He's a friend of Miles Calisto, the main character in the Disney TV show.
They had the following to say about the toys: "Eric... age 17 has the galactic miles and says he likes the style of it. The futuristic style drew him to it even though he's a big kid, he wants to play with it.

Qwentin, age 9 has the super stellar miles and likes it because of the colors of the character and the style of the bike.

Ma'Leah, age 8 has Pipp and says he looks like a cool character. It's cool that he can fly.

Za'Riah, age 4 has Loretta. She likes her board and she likes that her arms move and you can play with her."
Tomorrowland is the futuristic place where space exploration takes humans out into our galaxy and provides homes on rocketships or other planets. It promotes the desire for kids to study space and those who travel in it. While learning about the earth is important, I like having my kids learn about why lies beyond our planet. What better way than to have a cartoon family that goes out exploring together?
I made, or tried to make, fruit rocket kabobs.
I also made hot dog rockets and space rock meatballs.

Just something fun for them to chow down on while we had a good time playing with the toys.
I built a cardboard box rocket
and used old juice bottles to make them a jet pack.
The toy pack was such a joy to open! So many wonderful things that I got to share. Freely give as you are freely given, right?!
Before I could even get them out of the packages, my kids were enjoying them...
Once they came out of the packages, the true fun could begin. These toys are strong, light up, make sounds and add a higher level to their imagination while pretending they are the Calisto family blasting off on a new journey. The Stellosphere (their spaceship, otherwise known as Stella) does have issues opening some compartments and doors. It gets stuck sometimes. But everything else is blastastic!
So, let's rocket! And explore something new.

Living after divorce

Divorce is never easy. There is always some kind of hassle to it. Whether it’s going to court, dealing with paperwork, paying out the wazoo, or dealing with the aftermath that comes, you are bound to be stressed out at some time. And for some people, it’s a never ending battle that you constantly fight. You might even question buying a gun. I'll let your imagination run wild with the Why on that one...
For me, personally, it’s a trial by fire. One that I had set myself up for. I filed alone. I paid for all the fees and costs myself. I filled out the paperwork (with a little input from the future ex). I also hired the lawyer and went to court after the 60 day waiting period to finalize everything so he could move on and find himself a new woman. After all... he shouldn't have to grow up and take care of himself, right? He needs his "help".
But no worries. I can handle that all on my own. Finally I was a free (in the eyes of the State) woman! I could be myself. I could live my life. I could get ready to move out and take my kids with me. Or could I.... Guess again! We are sharing a lease. Until next April... Plus, I'd spent just about all my savings on the court and lawyer fees. So I have nothing to get me started elsewhere. Hmm now what?
No biggie. I can be patient. I can save money every couple weeks from my check. I'll prepare myself for when April gets here. Everything will work out. People question how it is that a couple who couldn't stand each other through marriage could stay together after being divorced. It’s not easy. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to beat the mess out of him. How many times I've wished he would just disappear. How many times even my kids have asked why he couldn't just move out to one of his girlfriends’ houses. (If only they knew...) I tell myself that time will speed by. That I'm saving money for the future move. And patience. An incredible amount of patience makes this hell I'm living go by.
But reality kicks in quite often. Money I had saved? I'm paying bills with. Van needed new hoses and couplings for the thermometer and new brakes. $600 in one month. Ever cry when you look at your bank account? I don't cry. I go grab a Redd’s and start chugging while I cook something. That doesn't take the edge off, sadly. What does? A nice vodka and orange juice. One will take the edge off. A couple shots start me giggling. 4 shots in succession have me laughing at everything my drinking buddies are saying until I'm on my rear in a corner holding my ribs together. Sadly, I won't be able to do this anymore. Lost my drinking pals recently.
As much as I try to take time to read the pile of books I have waiting or watch that movie I bought because I couldn’t wait to see it… The minute I try either, someone is interrupting. Even as I’m writing this, I have had to stop to change a diaper, sweep the floor and I’m deliberately ignoring the waving hand I see in the corner of my vision because I am sure that’s another drawn out conversation that I don’t need. I plug in the headphones and clean. I bake something. I clean some more. Maybe stop to cook dinner. Then back to cleaning. Until the kids are ready for the bath, bedtime story and bed! Then I think, yes! I have me time. What do I do? Pass out….
Single moms out there, you are probably nodding right along with me. Heck, married moms are probably nodding with me. It’s a full time job every day of the week, every week of the year. And it doesn’t come to its end until the kids are grown and supporting themselves. Until they truly start living.

Being divorced but still living with the ex can be incredibly awkward at times. Try taking a shower and he comes in to brush his teeth. It’s nothing he hasn’t seen before, but suddenly I feel as though I’m being invaded upon. Try inviting someone over, only they show up in the middle of a fight… Or here’s the best one yet… Having a serious conversation when the ex starts yelling upstairs. What does he want? His shirts hung up so they aren’t wrinkled. Um… do your own laundry?? I’m not your maid. I’m definitely not your wife. Your clothes are not my responsibility anymore. I only do them because I’m doing mine and it saves water, but if I don’t get them hung up right away… too bad!
Living with your ex spouse is not a good idea. Modern society makes things far more different than they used to be. Not gonna argue with that. But when it boils down to it, being divorced and living in the same house still – not going to work. No matter how hard you try or how much patience you have. You will find yourself dying to be truly free. You will want to hide in the corner and whisper, “It’s going to be okay” in the hopes you can convince yourself of such.
As far as having children with your ex… My oldest son is the one asking most often when daddy will move away and we can live without him. He’s the one we are having the most trouble with at school. He acts out and only recently finally admitted to a friend of mine (because he won’t tell me) that he’s picked on at school.

That he hates dancing in music class. So coming up this week, I’m planning to shadow him and have some talks with his teachers. Going to try to sort everything out with them.
I knew divorce was hard. I knew I’d be unhappy or stressed at times. I knew that my problems would be all on me without support from anyone. But no amount of steeling yourself and bracing for the storm can truly prepare you for all the pain you will go through. No amount of talking to your girlfriend or confiding in your closest friend can truly relieve you every time you feel alone. Every time you look at that tequila bottle and think about drowning your sorrow, you realize that you have someone relying on you. It takes time. It takes patience. It takes a strong drive to make it… just… one… more… day… It’s basically surviving life instead of living. But at times, it’s all you can do.
I’d suggest finding something you love and taking the time to do it. No, not drinking. That won’t help you get out of your funk. Don’t touch the kitchen knife either! Remember, you go to prison, who gets your kids? But then… who am I trying to kid? I don’t often find 5 minutes alone to do what I want. I thank God for those moments when I can run off to cosplay at the comic con. Sadly, that happens maybe twice a year for me. Or when I can take the bike and pay a visit to the donut shop for Talk like a Pirate Day.

I went as a steampunk pirate wench. *squeal like a fan girl here* They might be extremely few and far between, but it’s all I have these days. And I have, to believe that it will be enough to remind me what living really feels like. Take a moment to truly live. Just one more time…

Is Disney overdoing the Jungle Book on remakes?

Disney is making another Jungle Book.

Another Live action movie about the boy lost in the jungle and raised by the goofy bear and serious jaguar. Are they really that out of ideas?

Or could there perhaps be a new spin to the old tale? This newest movie opens in theaters April 15th of 2016.

Which versions have you seen? Does anyone else remember the 1994 one with Jason Scott LeeThe Jungle Book The animals didn't talk, but it seemed more realistic.

Olde Westport Spice and Trading Co review

Being a part of the US Family Guide Mom bloggers gives me the chance to try all kinds of things to write reviews on. My most recent and favorite one is the Olde Westport Spice and Trading Co spices that were sent to me.
They have mixes that make various dishes easier. Takes the guess work out of what spices to use together.
The first one I used was the Championship Chili Spice Blend. Its gluten free and had a great chili recipe on the back. It had a mild flavor when you compare it to normal Texas chili spice.
Definitely has a strong chili pepper flavor though. I loved how bold it was. It's a great family meal that won my children's approval. I did prefer mine with hot sauce though.

Olde Bill's Favorite Chili

You will need:

2 lbs of lean ground beef (or turkey)
15 ounce can tomato sauce
1 can of water
1 package of Chili seasoning
16 can of beans, drained and rinsed (red, black or pinto work best)

In a saucepan, brown the ground beef, drain well. Stir in tomato sauce, water and seasoning pack. Bring to a gentle boil, stirring often. Lower heat, cover, simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add beans. Simmer an additional 10 minutes or until heated through. Add salt to taste.

I also added bell pepper, onions, chopped tomatoes and green onions.

Three Rivers Chili Verde had an excellent recipe that complimented a plate of rice to the fullest. It was amazing. Creamy, tangy and new. The kids weren't a fan, but I'd love to make this again for guests. It's quick and easy too. You can serve it with rice, pasta or even a baked potato.
Easy Creamy Green Chili Chicken Soup

What you need:

1 (26 oz) can cream of chicken soup
1 (11 oz) can whole kernel corn, drained
2 (13 oz) cans cooked chicken breast meat, drained
1 (12 oz) can evaporated milk (1 1/2 cups 2% milk)
2 (4 oz) cans diced green chili peppers (1 cup)
1 package Olde Westport Chili Verde Mix

Add all ingredients into a heavy saucepan, stir until smooth. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, lower heat, cover, simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

I modified this recipe just a bit by adding diced tomatoes.

They also sent me the Garlic Shake and the Mesquite seasoning. I made some pan fried pork chops.
They were delicious! Each kind was flavorful. The garlic shake was the perfect blend for a casserole I made too.
I mixed it with the chicken first.
Definitely worth checking out if you're a foodie looking for a perfect mix.

Making the switch

I've decided to try to make the switch to an actual website instead of sticking with Google Blogger. I've already created a cool web page and I hope you will check it out and let me know what you think. Follow me there if you think its awesome!

Back to School clearance

The back to school rush has come to an end. If you haven't gotten everything you needed, you can still get the normal things but the pencil bags and boxes, and the things that were ordered in excess are now going on clearance. Backpacks, lunch boxes and specialty supplies will be included. As Halloween takes over, it will soon be followed by Christmas decorations.
I picked up 6 personal packs of tissues for .33 each or $1.98 for all. A pack of Disney Frozen pencils were only .70 (30% off). And the metal pencil boxes were half off so I picked up a Disney Cinderella one for only $1.48. Better act fast though. Whatever is left of the clearance in some stores won't make it more than 50% off. Salvage will begin when they start resetting or when product drops to a certain amount of space. My store has tons of notebooks and paper left. But things like folders, lunch boxes, writing utensils and tissues are in limited quantities.
